What is your deadline?
It’s an interesting thought experiment to consider how your behavior and choices might change based on different amounts of time you might have left:
What would you do if today were your last day??
What if you had one more year?
What if you had ten years?
What if you had unlimited years??
I suspect both ends of the spectrum invite us to behave recklessly in different ways.?
It’s the middle that seems most worth pondering about.?
One to 10 years somehow feels substantial and scarce at the same time.?
It is just short enough that we’re invited to think more critically about what it would mean to not waste time, to let go of all the small things we’re sweating--to act in earnest instead of indulging in fear.?
It is also just long enough, that we are invited to imagine what meaningful things we could build in that time.
Imagine giving yourself a deadline of 10 years with the deliverable of having made the most of them.?
A sense of unlimited time yields no urgency.?
A sense of no time at all yields no hope.?
A thoughtful deadline can give you both.?
