What is your Calling?
A childhood friend recently posted the attached photo from our high school yearbook to Facebook. Since that time I’ve been thinking about the hopes and dreams of my seventeen year old self; what I wanted to do, who I wanted to be, where I wanted to travel and much more. The photo caption identifies me as a young journalist, sports editor of the high school newspaper. Of course I wrote about a lot more than sports. Sports was an interest, a job, a responsibility. Exploring and writing about life was my passion as a 17 year old growing up on the small island of Galveston, Texas.
My father used to say had I been a college student in the 60’s or 70’s, he would turn on the TV to see me protesting for a cause or representing someone. So here I am many years later retuning to my love of writing to help a group (college students) that I am passionate about supporting with their career planning and development.
I have published in my high school and college newspapers, press guides, magazines and LinkedIn. Written poetry, journals, skits and now a series of books (www.whysalesforcollegestudents.com). Once I saw the photo of me at 17, I knew I was in the right space at the right time. Every experience or traffic stop along the way prepared me for today and brought me full circle to my first love – writing. I’m being called back to continue fulfilling my true calling.
What is your calling? How will you use it to help others? Please share.
