What your boss sees when you seek visibility

What your boss sees when you seek visibility

In this four-part series, we’re breaking down four sneaky behaviors you’re doing to gain visibility in your organization…

And exposing what top leadership really sees.

We’re affectionately calling this four-part series the?“Excuse me, miss, I’m sorry but you have toilet paper on your shoe”?series.

Receiving the wisdom we’re about to share over the next few days can feel like walking into an event, thinking you look stunning, and feeling everyone looking at you.?

But it was because you had toilet paper dragging on your heel for the last 20 minutes.?

In each part of this series, we’re breaking down one of the four critical productivity mistakes you are making that are:

  • Getting you noticed for the wrong reasons
  • Killing your productivity
  • Losing the respect of top leadership
  • Costing you the promotion or seat at the table

In today’s spot:?Looking for too many opinions

What you think:?

I must gather all the data I can collect collaboratively. I will ask as many people as possible to strengthen my point.

What other executives see (Including me when I see it):

  • That you lack decision-making skills and cannot make decisions with incomplete information.?
  • That you are looking to make everyone happy.?
  • That you are looking for validation or that you feel inadequate (yes, we can see that.)?

What to do instead:

Trust your experience and intuition, and risk getting it wrong. Asking a couple of trusted experts is okay, but leaders have to take risks. And it’s a skill you can practice.

If this series resonated, sign up for more of this at?Get Sh*t Done, our 3.5-hour productivity workshop that teaches you exactly how to prioritize for results. Results that will?get you noticed for the right things.?And who knows, maybe that’s the path to an?actual?seat at the table.

With love,

Mari Carmen
