What is Your Balance?

What is Your Balance?

As someone who has had to work on not overdoing things and worrying that enough hasn’t been done, I wanted to share a thought for today that appears in many places throughout history.

In the Tao Te Ching, we are warned that filling to the brim and over sharpening a blade are both detrimental to life, not to mention whatever is in the glass or the brittle knife.

Stop worrying about tomorrow

Jesus also taught not to worry about tomorrow because it has its own worries and today’s worries are enough for today. Stay present in today and live out your life as it unfolds.

As the year comes to an end and everyone starts to report on 2018 and plan for 2019, remember to stay focused on living in a place of balance in your life. “Balance” looks different for everyone. For some it is working on a passion for 16 hours a day because it is the drive in their life and for others it is working 8 hours at a job and then coaching a little league team.

Life is different for everyone, but we all have our own balance.

The crazy thing about balance is that it cannot be forced. It must flow naturally. A while ago, a good friend told me that balance is achieved when we can line up our internal states (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and one more that I can't remember at the moment). Each of these states are independent of each other, yet react to the influence of each other. Balance is achieved when all 5 are in tune and level. When that happens, you know it and the experience is quite the rush. It occurred once in my lifetime so far. An experience I'll never forget.
