I finally read Viktor Frankl’s incredible and inspiring book, Man’s Search for Meaning (1946), which is based upon his experiences in concentration and work camps during the Holocaust. The book shares his thoughts and perspectives on ways to differently experience your life, including the power of choice and attitude. One of his compelling comments that stood out to me the most is the following:
“Ultimately, man should not ask what the meaning of his life is, but rather must recognize that it is he who is asked. In a word, each man is questioned by life; and he can only answer to life by answering for his own life; to life he can only respond by being responsible.”
In other words, the question is not, what is the meaning of your life – but what is life asking of you? Even more important, in what ways will you respond to what life is asking of you?
Consider this shift today – away from what you can get from life to what you can give to life. I’m confident that the answers will uplift, inspire and encourage you.
