What Are YOU Willing to Risk to Be Successful?

What Are YOU Willing to Risk to Be Successful?

Do you Play it Safe?

Why do we limit our potential, our possibilities, and our future? Is it fear of failure? Do we just not care? Or is it because we think small, and live safe?

I’m embarrassed to say that there have been times in my life that I found myself guilty of limiting what was possible, and what I was capable of doing due to thinking small and playing it safe.

Believe me when I tell you that life is standing ready to reward you. Life wants to give you all that you’re capable of, all you’ve been designed to accomplish, if you’ll just stop thinking small and stop playing it safe.

You must decide to set aside your fear, your failure, inadequacy, and unworthiness. If you were to stop allowing these things to force you to play safe, you would be amazed at all that you can accomplish in this life.

Are YOU A Risk Taker?

Risk takers are far MORE likely to be successful because they don’t limit themselves. They’re willing to put in the energy, effort, courage, and action it takes to be successful, while everyone else is playing it safe, and waiting for just the right moment.

In their book Built to Last, Jim Collins and Jerry Porras coined the term BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) It has inspired thousands of companies and successful people since then. A true BHAG is a clear and?compelling?goal or vision that serves as a focal point — often creating?immense spirit and passion. It has a clear finish line, so you know when you have achieved the goal. Risk takers love to keep score and win. They love to cross the finish line first.

A BHAG engages people — it reaches out and grabs you in their gut. It is tangible, energizing, and highly focused. People ‘get it’ and adopt it right away; it takes little or no explanation.”

  • Microsoft’s vision in 1980, was to put a computer on every desk and in every house.
  • Space X’s plan is to take people to Mars.

So, what great cause, goal, or vision are you willing to risk getting outside your comfort zone for?

What Do YOU want?

Risk takers are bold. Risk taking creates courage, which in turn creates confidence and perseverance. When other people quit, risk takers stick it out, until they win.

Risk takers know that success doesn’t fall in your lap. You have to pursue it; you have to dig for it. In the pursuing, and the digging, rare opportunities are unearthed that otherwise would’ve never been found had they had waited and played it safe.

Risk takers are courageous, they don’t let a little fear get in the way. They know that fear keeps you from achieving your dreams, your goals, and your vision for your life. Fear keeps you from becoming successful. Risk takers deal with the fear by taking Action!!

Risk takers discover things?about themselves and their inner strength. They discover that they were far more capable than they ever believed. The more risks they take, the more action they’re engaged in.

The more action you create, the less concerned you become about failure. Failure just becomes a part of the process.

As human beings, we’re designed to win, designed to take risks, but we've been reprogrammed to lose and play it safe. The decision to become a risk taker has everything to do with what you want.

  • Who do you want to become?
  • What are your goals?
  • What’s YOUR vision for your life?
  • What do you want to accomplish?

What risks are you willing to take to achieve these things. If you act and believe like the person that has ALREADY achieved these things, then risk taking becomes nothing more than the pursuit for who you already are, and what you’ve already accomplished.

Now you’re just taking the necessary ACTION towards what you want, your goals, and your future vision. Imagine you already have it, and act accordingly.

I have taken many risks in my career and I truly believe I am a better person because of it. I don’t like complacency so if I have a goal and I’m not progressing, that’s where I decide to take a risk in order to achieve that goal and be successful at it.

I agree in theory, Michael. A positive expectation is important but I need to decide if I’m willing to pay the cost the action will require because there will be a cost whether financially, emotionally, relationally, physically, etc.
