What Are You Voting For Tomorrow?

I am not a very political person and even if I were, my politics would be considered bi-partisan. I used to identify as a Democrat but my view has changed over the years because the issues that matter most to me are consistently on both sides of the political spectrum. I also believe that most people, especially the younger generation feel the same as me, whether others want to admit it or not. What I do understand however is when I meet someone that really cares about a particular subject and is committed to doing something about it. I recently took on a client in the political space. This is something that I usually try to avoid but when I met Alyce, I knew that it felt good to be a part of supporting her mission.

Alyce Pipkin-Allen is running for Community College Board Trustee of District D in San Diego. District D includes some of the most underrepresented communities and others including Alta Vista, Broadway Heights, Chollas View, Del Cerro, El Cerrito, Emerald Hills, Encanto, Greater Skyline Hills, Jamacha, Kensington, Lincoln Park, Lomita Village, North/ South Bay Terrace, North Oak Park, Oak Park, O'Farrell, Paradise Hills, Redwood Village, Rolando, Rolando Park, Talmadge, Valencia Park, Webster, San Carlos, College area, Allied Gardens and Grantville.

Community College Board Trustee is not one of the races that you hear a lot about but it is a position that has a direct effect on local education that we can all actually feel. Here is what you should know about this position.

The strategic goals of the Community College Board are as follows:

  • Maximize student access, learning, and success through exemplary instruction and support services.
  • Strengthen our institutional effectiveness through innovation, continuous process and systems improvement, staff development, and enhanced internal collaboration.
  • Enhance collaborations with the community for increased responsiveness to its needs.
  • Ensure fiscal solvency through sound fiscal planning and management.
  • Lead in sustainable policies and practices.

What I learned during my discussions with Alyce is that she lives in the community that she would represent, she is already a leader in this community, she has been promoting the importance of education for her community for a long time and she is the choice for most of the people in this district. I was also impressed by her strong character and integrity. Like I said, politics is not my thing but all of those attributes just add up to a good choice at the least. So although I don't do endorsements, nor am I any type of political authority, I feel that this is the type of person that we need to represent this community.  So when you vote tomorrow, you should take some time to think about what you are voting for and vote for Alyce Pipkin-Allen for Community College Board Trustee of District D.
