"WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET"
When you look at this title or topic, there are many ways it can be interpreted or comprehended. It depends on the one seeing; their viewpoint can either stretch or shrink their vision, or what they see. So exactly, what does it mean when someone says, “WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET?” Well this can be applied towards one’s personal life from a relational standpoint or a business vantage-point. Either way, how someone sees and the perception they have will determine their attitude towards it. Their attitude will then affect their approach towards it as well.
Let’s look at a few examples related to seeing and perceiving. The first example is one where we are all familiar with and that is the observation of a glass with some water in it. The glass from one person’s viewpoint appears to be half-full, while another person’s perspective views that same glass as being half-empty. In this case scenario, we have two individuals; one seeing it one way and another seeing something totally different. An interesting observation is this, every person on the face of this earth could very well have a different point of view or perspective as it relates to the glass of water. There’s a great chance that they most of the people polled may in fact see it in a unified way, simply because THEY THINK ALIKE. There’s a saying which has been quoted for years that says, “birds of a feather, flock together.” This could also mean that the reason why they “flock together” is because they THINK ALIKE. It is extremely important to connect and gel together with individuals who’s thought process is that of one like the way you THINK. So, getting back to the glass of water, the person who sees the glass as being half-full is viewed as an optimist, while the person who sees the glass has half-empty is a pessimist. The optimist thinks optimistically along the lines of possibility, while the pessimist thinks along the line of impossibility, or that something probably won’t happen a certain way. The two are mutually exclusive. So if you see or view something negatively, it will take on that form. On the other hand, if you see something from a positive perspective, you will channel and exert your energies toward the possibility or the positive aspect of the likelihood of something happening. There is no such thing as being on the fence, per se or in the middle; you must take a definitive stand and viewpoint. The choice you make will draw you magnetically in that direction, be it possibility or impossibility, based on how you THINK and SEE it.
Before we move to the next point, it’s important to understand that the way we see things now and have seen things in the past, they have been influenced by those who helped shape our viewpoint. I want to caution you all to not build a wall around your THINKING arena. Give yourself the opportunity to dare to see beyond what you thought was your limited thinking. In other words, think outside of the box, per se. Do not place a cap on what exists and can exist. This is where inventors and scientists reside; the place or address of infinite possibilities. Just imagine doctors stopped believing in cures, why should they continue their “practices?” It would be considered an oxymoron if they did. It is the antithesis of positive thinking. Doctors are quite frankly believers in miracles. To the degree where they encourage and inspire people who look to them for solutions to their apparent problems.
A final example, but not conclusive example of someone seeing something and getting the results of what they saw or see, is that of a story of two businessmen who were involved in sales. They were both given the task or assignment of going out into an area or territory to see in they could see if the businesses in their area could in fact use or utilize their product in which they were selling. One of the sales persons went to a few businesses and made the declaration that the product could not be sold in that particular area. The other sales person on the other hand made a statement to the contrary and said, “the product will sell in that area, despite the rejection experienced on the front end of the sales venture. The person who tried and stopped and did not go any further did not make one sale. The other person on the other-hand, made several sales and developed several more leads from the sales made. What was the difference? Why did one make sales and the other person didn’t? The answer lies first in what they saw and the vision they had as individuals. In the beginning, they very well started with the same vision, but somewhere they separated in their thinking and in their thought process. Pessimists and Optimists cannot dwell in the same location and under the same roof. Either one or the other will convince or persuade the other to THINK like they do and subsequently the results will reflect their thoughts and their THINKING based on what they SAW and how they still SEE.
Today, I want to encourage you to change how you THINK and adjust how you SEE or look at things. Just like the words which are located on just about every single car on their rearview mirror, “the objects in this mirror are closer than they appear.” To bring a comparison to that statement, why don’t you make the declaration out loud right where you are; say this: “WHAT I SEE IS CLOSER THAN I THOUGHT, THEREFORE WHAT I SEE IS DRAWING ME CLOSER TO MY DESTINATION.” Now say this, “I SHALL HAVE THE GREATNESS I SEE BECAUSE I BELIEVE I SHALL HAVE WHAT I SAY AND WHAT I SEE.”
