What are you passionate about?

Over the last week or so I’ve been liaising with clients in both sectors over whether the public or private arena is the better to work in.
Despite some decent discussion, the answer was a simple one. It’s about the company, not whether it’s government funded or not.
One of my clients argued that the difference they have found is that staff are passionate about the organisation as a whole rather than just the role they’re undertaking. I imagine there are people reading this who can identify with that. What I can’t guess is which sector they fall under.
Following a recent seminar with TRN’s James Osborne, he showed that in 2016 the Global Staffing Market spent $429 Billion with recruitment agencies and the demand on them is ever growing. If passion is really the driving factor, what are businesses doing to stand out from the crowd?
We fairly recently re-looked at our company values and after consultation with every member of the business, came up with this:
As is clear, we’ve focused not just on what we pride ourselves on with our excellence, accountability and honesty, but taken a real look at what makes those who work for us proud.
Our integrity and family feel are vital for anyone who chooses to join our business, but these are also the values that those in recruitment should promote with their candidates and clients.
The recruitment world is changing all the time. Just this week we’ve had temporary requests for Executive Assistants, Administrators, last minute reception cover and Data Entry Coordinators. Without the continual promotion of our values, we would not have had the candidates ready to step into those roles – particularly on short notice!
Visions and values are obviously one small part of the puzzle, but is something that sells your company before potential candidates have even met a member of staff. In a time of Brexit, an ever-shrinking candidate pool and the announcement that UK pay growth has risen to 3.1%, businesses and, in turn, Recruitment Professionals have to be doing more to get the best possible candidate available.
So whether you are more enthusiastic about your role or the business you work in, it would be great to talk with those of different industries about what needs to change!
Never stop asking what you’re passionate about. And if it’s not your job, likely the thing you spend more time doing than anything else, why not speak to our temporary or permanent staffing teams to see how they can show you what’s out there!
