International Women’s Day is March 8, an opportunity to reflect on the progress made towards achieving gender equality and celebrate the acts of courage and determination by individuals who have played an extraordinary role in advancing gender equality in their communities. As a young girl growing up in Canada, I had never heard of International Women's Day. It wasn't until I was fresh university graduate, teaching in Russia - when the children brought me beautiful gifts of chocolate, flowers and fairytales - that I learned around the world it was a day for acknowledging the accomplishments and achievements of women. Since then, I have celebrated it with strong and empowered colleagues from Ramallah to Kabul, Nairobi to Cairo. This year, in line with the #CHOOSETOCHALLENGE theme, we at MT Consulting Group challenge you to open doors to the women in your professional network. Take your mentoring one step further and become a sponsor by directing opportunities to women in your network that while highly competent and full of potential, have been traditionally overlooked for promotions because of their gender.
