Greetings! We at Idecution hope that you have enjoyed our recent newsletters on all things digital marketing. Today we will be taking a look at one of the most integral facets of digital marketing - Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
What Is #SEO?
SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is a collection of processes and practices that you can follow to make your website rank higher on the search results pages of search engines. The goal of this exercise is to increase organic traffic by creating high-quality content for your target audience and at the same time help the search engine algorithms to better connect your sites with your target audiences.
We have tried simplifying the process of SEO by using an analogy of a library. You can read it here: Simplifying SEO - The What and How
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Do I need to hire an SEO expert? Can’t I do it all by myself?
Answer: SEO is not a part-time activity. If you are looking to get good results out of this, you should hire an SEO expert or outsource the SEO activities to an agency. Outsourcing is a better option since apart from SEO expertise, you will also require tailored content and UI/UX expertise. Also, an SEO agency will work with more dedication and focus as they will want to retain your account with them.
2. Our business is small. SEO is only for big brands since people are searching for those brands?
Answer: It is a myth that only big businesses can rank their website and small businesses cannot. Any search engine such as Google, Yahoo or Bing does not discriminate based on the popularity of the brand. That being said, there are some indicators that decide how relevant your website content is to the search queries, and hence the users. These include the number of visitors, the time they spend on your website and whether your website satisfies their search or if they move on to other websites after yours.

Common SEO Terms
Now that you have learned what SEO is and how it differs from SEM, let us look at a few common terms associated with SEO.
1. On-page SEO - On-page SEO, as its name indicates, refers to the optimisation of the user experience for website visitors. This includes the understanding of the journey of the website visitors and improving the website layout, content and design for the same.
2. Off-page SEO - Off-page consists of promotional activities which are targeted to increase brand awareness, credibility and more traffic to the website.
These can be in the form of guest blogs, posts on social media, submitting details on various directories, etc.
3. Keywords - These are words or phrases most relevant to your target audience for finding your website. You will want your website to be ranked higher in the results when users will search for the keywords. Often, these are connected deeply to the business in which you operate. For example, for a website talking about IIoT solutions, “challenges for Industrial IoT (IIoT) implementation” would be a relevant keyword.
