What You Need to Know about Lung Cancer?

?

Lung cancer, also known as lung carcinoma, is an infectious tumor characterized by uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lungs. This growth can spread beyond the lung by the process of metastasis into nearby tissue or other parts of the body. Most cancers that start in the lungs are known as primary lung cancers and are carcinomas.

Types of Lung Cancer -??

Mainly there are two types of lung cancer, which are treated in different manners:

  1. Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC):

Between 75% and 85% of lung cancers are NSCLC. The main subtypes of NSCLC are adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and large cell carcinoma. These subtypes start from different types of lung cells which are grouped together as NSCLC because their treatment and diagnosis are often similar.

  • Adenocarcinomas start in the cells that would normally secrete substances such as mucus. Adenocarcinoma is usually found in the outer parts of the lung?and is more likely to be found before it has spread. It is mainly found in younger generations that are current-former smokers or even can be found in non-smokers.
  • Squamous cell carcinomas start in squamous cells, which are flat cells that line the inside of the bronchus in the lungs.? Squamous cell carcinomas are often linked to a history of smoking and tend to be found in the central part of the lungs near the main bronchus (airway).
  • Large cell carcinoma can appear in any part of the lung. It tends to grow and spread quickly, which can make it harder to treat.?

2.Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC):

Between 5% and 15% of all lung cancers are SCLC, which is sometimes called oat cell cancer.?

This type of lung cancer grows and spreads faster than NSCLC. About 70% of people with SCLC will have cancer that has already spread at the time they are diagnosed. Since this cancer grows quickly, it responds well to treatments like chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Unfortunately, for most people, the cancer will return at some point.?

Preventing Lung Cancer –

  • Don't smoke. If you have never smoked, do not start.
  • Stop smoking. If you currently smoke, make a plan to quit.
  • Avoid secondhand smoke.??
  • Test your home for radon.??
  • Avoid carcinogens at work.?
  • Eat a diet full of fruits and vegetables.??
  • Exercise most days of the week.

People who smoke cigarettes are 15 to 30 times more likely to get lung cancer or die from lung cancer than people who do not smoke. Even smoking a few cigarettes a day or smoking occasionally increases the risk of lung cancer.
