What you missed: Information and Communications
This session was put together to examine why enabling diverse grid components to interact effectively requires standardization and accurate data interpretation. Andrew Bordine compiled a collection of experts to explore the critical role of seamless data exchange and communication in modern energy systems. The benefits of semantic frameworks were highlighted, including interoperability to improve grid efficiency, real time decision making, and grid resilience.
Steve Widergren led off the session with a presentation on common grid service definitions encompassing a foundation of interoperability through the rationale for those definitions applied to wholesale and retail energy business.
DER interoperability was the focus of Brian Seal’s presentation whereby he made the case that enabling more DER and increasing its value to the grid hinges upon solid, interoperable communication and connection.
Robby Simpson advocated for the value of standards from conception through testing and certification to realize the full benefits of those standards for interoperable devices and systems.
Coming soon will be the recording of the session on our YouTube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/@gridwiseac.
