Our first two Your Life After Tech podcasts, and should be available from your favorite podcast platform.

In Episode 001, we meet Travis Ross, who left tech (and most recently UX Design) to get into full-time handyman and home renovation work.

In Episode 002, we meet Danielle Malik, who left tech (and most recently Design Leadership) to start a business around housing for those in need and transition.

Episodes are released every Thursday, and don't worry, not everybody has left tech! We'll meet people who are staying, leaving, or already gone.

Life After Tech book

The book is available in multiple digital, print, and audiobook formats. If you've read some or all of it, and especially if you've benefitted from the book, please leave a review on Amazon and/or GoodReads! You don't have to have bought it from Amazon to review it there.

Most recent reviews include:

Plainspoken and practical, this read provides specific activities to help you think about how to earn a living in a way that works for you.

From a UK reader:

Somehow Debbie always seems to read my mind and publish a book that strongly resonates with me. Witchcraft, I tell you! Before reading this book I kept googling career paths that a software engineer can transition to outside of tech and its small world petty problems. There was nothing of note. I read Life After Tech in almost less than a day (it's easy to read and digest) and it gave me the guidance, hope and validation I was looking for. I aim to tackle the exercises in my second read through. After almost 10 years of tech it has definitely lost its lustre and I've become highly disillusioned. It's not about quality or empathy. It probably never was. If you are interested in exploring a different path or multiple paths this is the book for you! Go for it, be the phoenix, rise and take flight! Thank you Debbie for your gorgeous, timely book.

From an audiobook listener:

Read it so you know you aren't crazy, and so you'll have a practical map to leave the craziness behind to whatever degree makes the most sense for you. There are many great observations, insights, and hard truths in this book. What I appreciate most was that it consolidated many things I’ve witnessed, been thinking, and feeling about the tech industry into a cogent conversation on both the state of the industry as well as possible paths forward. It was sort of a mix of Peopleware and Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance for me. Those are both amazing books so I'm giving one of the best compliments I know how when saying that.

I have not finished the book but I thoroughly enjoyed the podcast. I had a clothing alterations business for years when I took time to raise my girls, and there's so much truth in using your other talents to explore other financial means if tech is not the best fit for one anymore. I myself have been working on other ideas while still working with consulting. I'm a firm believer that there is a time and season for everything. It is wise to have plans A to Z to be prepared for eventualities.
