What Are You Marching For?

My mom wanted to be a chemist.?

But her parents—my grandparents—wouldn’t pay her tuition. I’m not sure why. Her two brothers finished college, so I can only assume gender played a role.?

So my mom got a job at Ohio Bell. She later married my dad (a chemist), and after they had me, she quit her job at the phone company.?

Because of my mom’s sacrifices and concessions, I finished college. I pursued a career. Moved to California. And now I work with companies that study principles of chemistry as part of their research.?

This Women’s History Month, celebrate the contributions women have made to art and science.

Honor the women who did what they could so future generations could soar even higher.?

Who are you celebrating?this month??

PS: if you’re a woman in life sciences, hats off to you! My mom and I are cheering you on.

March Toward Sensible Marketing

“Our articles are not delivered automatically after filling out the forms,” a company replied, after I wrote to alert them that the article I requested via a sign-up form had not been delivered. “Someone from our team validates the details, and if the lead is relevant for us, they manually send the articles to them.”?

Good grief! Isn’t the intent of content marketing to give your audience valuable information??

This company was not going to give me anything unless they considered me relevant.

I'm not, I guess, so no surprise I have yet to see that article.?

My approach to gated content is more generous: if you’re growing your email list, and you’re giving away high-value, original content, go for it. Qualify those leads after they fill out the form.?

The flow chart below shows marketer Sara Stella Lattanzio 's take. She advocates for ungating most things. Other marketers want to gate everything but the blog.??

Where do you fall on the gated/ungated spectrum?

March for Regulated AI & the Ozone

This week, lawmakers in the European Parliament approved the AI Act. Once applicable rules take effect, medical devices with AI-based components will have an additional set of rules to follow in the EU.?This article for MD+DI breaks down its potential implications and some of the red flags observed so far.

The EPA is on the verge of finalizing a rule limiting ethylene oxide (EtO) emissions from commercial sterilizers. AdvaMed and other industry organizations, including Biocom California have argued against the proposed rule as written, noting possible plant shutdowns and delays in patient care. According to InsideEPA, the agency is considering “compliance flexibility.” Stay tuned.
