What if you are losing your most talented team because you are missing the brutal facts......this is what I recommend you focus on to stop this.

Read time 4 minutes.

In our fast-paced world of hospitality, motivating your team is often seen as a top priority. However, let's take a step back and challenge this conventional wisdom.

What if I told you that actually focusing on demotivation could be the crucial answer to your team's success?

Welcome to this week's newsletter, where we explore the myth about motivation and uncover the true keys to team engagement and retention.

If you want to chat with me about how I help restaurant leaders develop and find new solutions to this, find a time?here?.

You see, while motivation is important, it's only part of the equation. And don't get me started on, if you have the right people in the right places they will self-motivate...though that's another newsletter!

We believe that placing more emphasis on understanding and addressing demotivating factors can lead to more sustainable and impactful results. And will retain your teams.

Any attempts to motivate our teams are easily nullified by the presence of demotivating elements.

Imagine going to the gym for an intense workout, only to counteract your progress by indulging in a burger, chips, ice cream, and a margarita afterward's.....the good work is lost, if the brutal facts aren't faced.

Ps. If you are new here, follow my daily insights to launch your leaders towards success.??Go to?Michelle Moreno?and ring my bell?????to not miss out.

We've prepared an activity for you - How To Uncover Your Top 10 Causes Of Demotivation.

This exercise will enable you to gain insights and take actionable steps towards creating a more fulfilling work environment:

  1. Start by setting up a feedback session: Arrange a meeting with your team in small groups to create a safe space for honest conversations.
  2. Ask open-ended questions: Encourage your team to share their thoughts and experiences regarding what demotivates them. Consider questions like, "What factors make you feel less motivated in your role?" or "Can you identify any specific incidents that have impacted your motivation negatively?" Do you know why someone else left?
  3. Listen actively and take notes: Pay close attention to their responses, allowing team members the space to express their feelings without judgment. Take comprehensive notes to capture their concerns accurately.
  4. Analyse the data: Once you've gathered input from your team, review the notes and identify 10 recurring themes or patterns with your managers.
  5. Develop a HMW (How Might We) action plan: Based on the demotivating factors you've identified - flip these negatives into a future state...How might we ....... Some examples

  • Rotas are late ?? How might we get the rotas out earlier
  • We are not appreciated at work ?? How might we build appreciation by managers into our culture
  • Wages are incorrect ?? How might we confirm hours worked
  • This manager is rude ?? How might we give feedback to this manager
  • I don't know what is expected of me ?? How might we clarify roles and expectations
  • I don't think I'm valued so I'm thinking of leaving ?? How might we organise checkin's to discuss what progression people would like

6. NOW THE MOST IMPORTANT......create an actionable plan to address them. Consider implementing changes, providing training opportunities, follow, or revising policies to alleviate these concerns.

DO NOT LET UP AT THIS POINT....thoughts and insights are useless with out action.

A 3rd party facilitator, who understands every pain point you have, might be the answer to help find out the true demotivating factors and help action solutions.

And Imagine if it all went right.
