What You Learn From A Blog Challenge

What You Learn From A Blog Challenge

So we have started the blog challenge with the team.

You learn a lot about someone when you give them a challenge.

Are they competitive? Are they a perfectionist ?

Can they draw the relevant information from research in a fixed time? Can they meet deadlines? What is their attitude - do they approach with can do or find reasons why it can't be done? Are they willing to go the extra mile to help patients? To pursue a cause bigger than themselves.

I used to do very badly at these tasks but now I sit here in a 10 minute break writing an article. Procrastination non existent.

Make the decision and get it done.

Sometimes this challenges help us see the false beliefs of people feeling the task is impossible. It is up to you as a leader to show it can be done. It is possible.

I used to have those false beliefs too. And in those dark moments begin to wonder whether the huge goals I set are too much. But then I quietly remind myself of the other challenges I felt were impossible that I've overcome.

Belief

I didn't believe I would be head physio of a premiership rugby team at 27 and look after 12 international women rugby players.

I didn't think I would have my own practice with 4 locations at 32!

I didn't think I'd be masterminding with millionaires at conferences and them spilling the insights on how they grew their businesses.

I'm not saying this to show off. It's to show you that often we achieve far more than we expect.

Patients False Belief

Our patient's experience the false belief that it won't be possible to run again, work again, ride again or succeed in sport.

Stop filling your head with negativity and assumptions.

Start taking action and pushing yourself.

See as healthcare practitioners we have 45 minutes for an initial assessment we have to draw the relevant information from often complex pictures.

Most people think physio is straight forward. A tissue, one structure, one way to get it better. It's far more complex than that. We need to look holistically, understand the psychology and dynamics of why and how this person got injured and the impact thats had on their lives.

This challenge for my team is not about writing a blog. Although this will hopefully inspire and educate patients and help promote our brand. It teaches a key skill.

How to get relevant information from evidenced based material.

How to work within a time frame and choose the best information.

To understand we can get more from our time by 'attending' and making sure we are fully focused on one task. No distractions, no facebook, no emails.

Just attention on ONE task.

We nurture a culture of responsibility. Responsibility for ones own learning, promotion and learning the skills necessary to succeed even if thats a bit uncomfortable!

I look forward to sharing the results.

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this task. Please comment below. Have you done anything similar with your team? How did you find it?

Speak soon.

I would agree with you whole heartily Nicole.? Responsibility? is important when empowering employees to reach a goal . Allowing them more? autonomy, not micro managing them and with the right amount of coaching? encourage them to believe in themselves and their ability to change the outcome of a consultation?by interacting with? clients in a different manner to how they would normally behave and then by self analysis, and reflection? on how they could possibly do things differently? not only to? become more productive but to be truly inspired and feel a sense of achievement . Unrelated but meaningful is what we do In our office? occasionally. Out of the blue we often compliment each other by saying things such as "your hair looks lovely today"? or "Is that a new shirt you are wearing?" By paying someone a compliment even though sometimes they know what you are doing , it still makes them smile and change the way they are feeling about themselves . Try it I promise it works!!! Good article ny the way.
