What? You have a tattoo??

I've had tattoos since my younger days, long before I met my husband and before I had kids.

There was a period of time when I was worried that having a prospective employer sees them will cost me a potential job offer and so I always had them covered up so no one can see them.

Even years later at work, I am always conscious of choosing war clothes that will cover up my tattoos area so people wouldn't ask me about it and having to worry about what people would think about me. I mean, what does a professional working woman has got to do with tattoos right? So, like any self respecting professional, I always ensure my tattoos are nicely concealed at work with a good jacket or cardigan. Only close friends would see them after office hours when I finally could take my camouflage off.

That being said, I do have one on my ankle which is a little hard to conceal. Yet as I think back over the years, never has any boss discriminate me because they found out I had a tattoo. I have a lot of folks who had strike a conversation with me over the tattoo on my ankle as they got curious over the origin or the process of having it done.

" Did it hurt?" they like to ask. " What does it symbolise?" some try to probe. No one was ever nasty to me because I have a tattoo on my ankle. So far, I haven't been ask to have coffee with my HR department because of my body artwork either.

A friend post this on his Facebook that day" "Sometimes the nicest people you meet are covered in tattoos & sometimes the most judgmental people you meet go to church on Sundays." and it got me thinking. Most people are not who they are on the surface once you get to know them, many of the tattooed people I know are indeed the nicest and down to earth folks and I am truly honoured to have them as friends.

I'm not implying that the non tattooed folks are all superficial and arrogant pricks. What I am saying is, don't judge a book by its cover. Lets all get to know people more deeply before we make any judgement. Sometimes we meet someone on their worst day but that doesn't mean they are horrible people right?

Let's all make this world a happier place. Peace, out.
