What are you great at?

What are you great at?

Odds are, you have super powers. You're good at lots of things, maybe not as great as you'd like to be at a few others (#itsajourney). But then there are a couple of things that feel like flying.

You probably know what those are. Other people know it. "So and so? She's amazing at X."

Even if it feels like a gift, usually it's not just natural skills. I mean, you're better at it today than you were at first, right? There were tricks you picked up along the way, things you observed, echoed, refined.

What puts you into "flow state?" What kind of projects do you volunteer for when the opportunity comes up because doing that thing leaves you feeling good at your gig, humming?

Do me a favor, take a moment. Write a couple down and don't worry about maybe feeling a little self-braggy. This is just a friendly audit, between you and you.

OK, ready?

Great -- so here's a question to ponder: Who are you teaching that to?

It doesn't matter where you are in your career, whether you're an individual contributor or a manager. You have super powers. Know them and name them. And then share them. Because the only thing better than having a super power or two is teaching other folks how to fly. Or, how to have laser vision.

It's so important to recognize not only our own super powers, but others' within our team as well. Everyone has them!

Dan, I can‘t believe the coincidence of you publishing this article today and me and Ande Withers talking about teachable talents (aka superpowers) as we drove up to Sunnyvale together this morning!
