I read an article by Peter J Thomson who is spot on in defining strategist. Here are my favorite definitions and the ones that most exemplify my work.

I've been a strategist ever since I was a little girl. You can't imagine how long it took me to recognize this as a talent. I work with service-based entrepreneurs to advance them using social media and e-mail marketing to increase visibility, protect their reputation and increase business.

Get One How to Tip here - You Got Catfished!

Here is a tip that I may not have the time to share at the conference. Are you catfishing your network? Maybe you are, and you don't know it.

Did you see the episode of Grey’s Anatomy - As Meredith and Stephanie are treating their online dating patient, her boyfriend shows up with flowers and - surprise! - he looks different (to put it mildly) than he does in his profile pictures. The patient is kicking herself and lamenting her bad luck in love. Stephanie blurts. On her way to surgery, "You cat fished her!" that's when you lure (someone) into a relationship by means of a fictional online persona. How do you imagine a business connection would feel being cat fished?

One way we cat fish people online is through the use of the profile picture. The way it's done online is with profile photos you use on your social sites. Imagine you are networking with a client on LinkedIn that you have not yet met face to face.

You have put in a lot of time into building your relationship. It's getting increasingly serious, as far has doing business with each other. Now its time for your first date, a business meeting in your client's office. You show up, and the response is, "Who are you?"

After all the relationship building how could they not know who you are? Could it have something to do with that profile photo that you've been using from 20 years ago when you were a college senior? Yes, you cat fished them, and now your client is uncomfortable and suspicious wondering what other things have you not been quite truthful about?

If you are trying to advance your business or career, LinkedIn as an excellent place to concentrate your efforts especially when you add a professional photo to your profile. Doing so makes you 14x more likely to be found on LinkedIn and 36X more likely to receive a message.
