What are you focusing on?
In my line of business and collaboration I speak with business owners who are busy (lol – like who isn’t).
However I have found a distinct difference in what the busy is.
There are those that are busy in the action and the doing of their business – in my authentic way I would say they are the ones getting s*&t done, and then there are those people that are focused on what everyone else is doing or how they are doing it and spend time passing judgement – and it’s not good judgement.
Now I’m not saying, don’t check out what other people are doing, but if you’re reading social media and all you can see are the flaws in someone else’s work, well, gee, I hope you’re getting better engagement / results than they are. (yes I did just say that)
If you are too focused on how badly you think someone else is doing their social media, who’s back in your business doing what needs to be done with a great positive vibe? Not you, because you’re too busy nit picking someone else’s work. Just saying.
If you’re not getting paid by that person to critique their work, then ask yourself why are you doing it?
Take a step back for a moment and have a real honest conversation with yourself on the Why.
If they are being authentic, who are you to tell them they suck. (and do you really know they suck – refer back to my point about whether they are getting more results than you before you step into that hole)
And for all of the other posters on social media, especially here on LinkedIn, keep doing what you’re doing with authenticity!
Don’t worry if little swear words, missing commas and other grammatical mistakes are you. Don’t worry if your makeup or hair isn’t right in the video.
Don’t let the very small amount of people who you think will nit pick your stuff (and probably send you a long winded private message on why your posts suck), stop you from being you or worse still, paralyse you.
And if you do get one of those private messages, here are my 2 suggestions:
1) Thank them for their work on critiquing your posts but a) you didn’t ask for it b) you can’t pay them SOZ.
2) Remind them that if your posts bother them so much, they can choose not to read them ??

5 年Dee!! Very true!
Ah Dee Mills people who behave in a way that is incongruent are only hurting themselves and we need to have empathy for them BUT also call them out on their behaviour- by accepting poor behaviour here online or anywhere we are saying it’s okay. I have a large following and 1% area me this - I always answer them but with questions back - why is this offending you? Why are you frustrated? Using their words as it’s all their stuff that is coming up It really has nothing to do with me - they just do not yet have the tools they need and it’s easier to attack others than to take responsibility in the short term - with a long play take responsibility get over yourself apologise and move on ! Great article
