What are you feeding yourself today?

5 years ago, I was moving into a new house and was busy making a list of things to buy. On the last day in the house I was vacating, I woke up to my then morning ritual of pouring myself a cup of coffee and watching the news. I was just about to write "buy TV" on the list when I stopped and wondered. Why am I watching this first thing in the morning?
On the TV, was pure chaos and cacophony. Another scam, another murder trial, another war, so on. To contemplate why the channel put emphasis on sensationalising such news I felt was futile. However, I did have control over the fact that I was exposing myself to this first thing in the morning.
As always, never miss a chance to quote this often repeated lines of Buddha:
"Each of us is a God, Buddha had said. Each of us knows all.We need only open our minds to hear our own wisdom. "
And an extension of it would be:
Our mind is a god, and our body is a temple
Imploring this was a no brainer, until such time comes, where body swapping (or "sleeves" as appears on the Altered Carbon show) becomes a reality, we have just this one body, and a beautiful mind to take care of.
Today, my morning ritual involves playing with my pet, spending time with my newborn baby watching the sunrise and listening to the birds chirp, followed by reading few pages of Plato's The Republic on my kindle.
Life is short, and mind space is precious, to be fed with chaos and negativity. Feed positivity in your mind first, and read the news to acknowledge and be wary of what's happening in the world. From experience, I pass on wise counsel: only a positive, happy mind can practice compassion!
