Being an International Coaching Week (ICW), I have been interacting with different organizations like Stanbic bank, AMREF, APA Insurance, Kenya School of Govt, Absa bank, among others as we celebrate ICW event. We are all celebrating the transformation and impact that coaching has brought in organizations and beyond.
During this week, I have learnt that the number one benefit of coaching to organizations is the effect coaching has on their bottom line. When employees receive coaching, they are more likely to remain in the organization. This means turnover reduces.
Employees leave organization for a variety of reasons.
The top four being;
· Career development.
· Lack of motivation and direction.
· Work-life balance.
· Manager unresponsiveness.
Another thing to consider are the costs of hiring a new employee. Retaining productive team members, and helping them to become great employees starts with the onboarding process. This includes three elements:
- Learning what makes the organization unique.
- Learning how s/he fits into the organization’s mission, and
- Instilling the organization’s vision, mission, and values into the new staff.
After this, coaching which involves consistent and frequent feedback is crucial.
Employees need three things in the workplace:
· A sense of a firm culture.
· Clarity on what is expected.
· Human connection.
The easiest and most effective way to achieve the above objectives is through coaching.
Workplace coaching is “on-the-job coaching by line managers and supervisors with the aim of improving productivity and developing individual workers’ skills and their understanding of job requirements.
A workplace coach understand the unique strengths, abilities, weaknesses, and strengths of their team members. They focus on opening up opportunities for team members to develop their strengths.
We as coaches, we celebrate and appreciate your efforts as organizations, as you strive towards driving our economy, and creating job opportunities for our young people.
