What you do in private influences how you appear in public.

Behind closed doors, I can do a lot of things. I tell myself that if no one can see what I'm doing, it doesn't count. Right?

That chocolate bar. There were two glasses of wine. It's the pizza. The midnight munchies.

But boy, do they matter! They are counted in two ways:

1. Begin with the obvious. Junk food, sugar, and alcohol all contribute to body fat and lethargy. But it's not just the weight gain that we need to be concerned about; it's the effect of sugar in our bodies, which ranges from inflammation to illness to anxiety. It refers to the impact of unhealthy fats on your health and energy levels.

2. The obvious but not-so-obvious. The impact on your mental state. This is not something you can see, but it is something that everyone around you can feel - not just you. When you're anxious, exhausted, and dissatisfied with your decision to eat a whole box of Smarties (the movie size), it shows in your mood and interactions with others.

Oh, the deceptions we tell ourselves.

I'm a master at making up reasons why I need the monster size chocolate slab, the wine... I had a difficult week; I deserved it; my children were stressed by exams; I fought with my partner, and my toddler/teenager is driving me insane.

These are not what we would call excuses.

We call them justifications for sabotaging our own success by acting as if we have no control over what we put into our bodies.

When are we going to stop making excuses?

Only when there is a major health scare?

Do we have to wait until it's that bad and we've done irreversible harm?

It's natural to want a quick fix.

to desire immediate gratification rather than committing to the slow and steady slog to success

On Instagram, we see people who appear to have it all: perfect bodies, perfect families, and perfect businesses. They've undoubtedly worked their buttocks off to get there - nothing comes easy in life, and how much is purely fictitious.

That is the challenge that the majority of people face -

They want to see immediate success in order to justify their commitment to continue.

However, success takes time. It's a chain reaction. It takes some time to get going, but once you do, you'll be unstoppable.

I've finally found my stride.

psst...I'm in the UK since a year and had to sit down to a deep serious talk about the blame game, also known as the 'excuse championships'...more on that in another blog.

I returned to cycling training and discovered that I was much happier as a result (as I'm sure everyone else around me was as well). It wasn't just the exercise that got me going; it was the feeling of remembering why I love it so much and knowing that I can get back into it.

It all comes down to perception and attitude. You are correct, whether you believe you can or cannot.
