What If You Did The "Thing" That Frightens You The Most?

In the realm of Spiritual and Personal growth , there is a widely held belief that facing our fears is a crucial step towards reaching our full potential. It is often said that growth happens outside of our comfort zones, and what better way to push those boundaries than by confronting the very things that frighten us the most?

Welcome to this months edition of The Christian Advantage Newsletter.

The Different Schools of Thought

When it comes to facing our fears, there are various schools of thought that offer different perspectives on how to approach this daunting task.

  1. The "Leap of Faith" Approach

One school of thought suggests that the best way to conquer our fears is to take a leap of faith and dive headfirst into the unknown. This approach advocates for embracing uncertainty and trusting that everything will work out in the end. By confronting our fears directly, we can build resilience and gain a sense of accomplishment that boosts our confidence.

2 The Gradual Exposure Approach

Another approach emphasizes the importance of gradual exposure. This method involves starting with small steps and gradually increasing the level of difficulty as we become more comfortable. When I went back to the gym, I had to start when I felt safe enough to continue. As I got stronger, I increased my reps. By gradually confronting our fears, we can desensitize ourselves to the initial discomfort and build up the necessary skills and confidence to overcome them. I am not quite to where I want to be, but I am on my way there by taking those tiny steps of faith everyday.

3. The Mindset Shift Approach

A third school of thought focuses on shifting our mindset towards fear. Instead of viewing fear as something to be avoided, this approach encourages us to reframe fear as a sign of growth and opportunity. By embracing fear as a necessary part of the journey, we can cultivate a sense of curiosity and use it as a driving force for personal development.

4 Tactics and Strategies

Now that we've explored the different schools of thought, let's dive into some practical tactics and strategies that can help you confront our fears.

1. Identify and Define Your Fears

The first step in facing our fears is to identify and define them. Take some time to reflect on what truly frightens you and why. Understanding the root cause of our fears can provide valuable insights and help us develop a targeted approach to overcome them. There are several scriptures relating to fear. Once you decide to master this area of your life, the right scriptures that resonates with you will come alive and you will go to them everyday.

2. Breaking It Down

Once you've identified your fears, break them down into smaller, more manageable steps. By breaking down the task into bite-sized pieces, it becomes less overwhelming and more achievable. This approach allows us to tackle our fears one step at a time, gradually building our confidence along the way. Sometimes we don't know our fears until we decide to face and manage them.

3. Seek Support

Facing our fears can be a challenging journey, and having a support system can make a world of difference. Reach out to friends, family, church family or even a mentor who can provide guidance, encouragement, and accountability. Surrounding ourselves with positive influences can help us stay motivated and navigate the ups and downs of the process.

4. Embrace Failure as a Learning Opportunity

Confronting our fears is not always a smooth ride, and setbacks are inevitable. However, it's important to view failure as a learning opportunity rather than a roadblock. Each setback brings valuable lessons and insights that can propel us forward. Embrace the process, learn from your mistakes, and keep moving forward.

Here are some examples of Impactful and Courageous People that almost anyone can identify with, and the lessons we should learn from them

Throughout history, there have been countless individuals who have embraced their fears and achieved remarkable things. Let's explore a few impactful people and the lessons we can learn from them. We see so many examples in scriptures but also there are hundreds in history.

1. Nelson Mandela - Courage in the Face of Adversity

Nelson Mandela, the former President of South Africa, spent 27 years in prison for his fight against apartheid. Despite the immense fear and uncertainty he faced, Mandela never wavered in his commitment to justice and equality. His story teaches us the importance of staying true to our values and convictions, even when the odds seem insurmountable. What Mr. Mandela had was not learned in academia. He was launched into the deepest resources of the God-Kind to gather up the spirit and strength to endure what he went through for the sake of millions around the world. I pray his story is not lost in the shadows of time! We need this story for generations to come.

2. Amelia Earhart - Embracing the Unknown

Amelia Earhart, the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, faced numerous fears throughout her career. She embraced the unknown, pushing the boundaries of what was considered possible for women in aviation. Earhart's story reminds us of the power of embracing uncertainty and taking risks in pursuit of our dreams. The day I met Amelia Earhart in history, I knew I had to do more and stand on her shoulders and a brave woman who would one day make a mark upon this world that could not be erased. We owe this dynamic human true respect for not standing still because of fear.

3. Malala Yousafzai - Speaking Up in the Face of Oppression

Malala Yousafzai, the youngest Nobel Prize laureate, fearlessly advocated for girls' education in her native Pakistan, despite the threats and violence she faced. Her unwavering determination to stand up against oppression and fight for the rights of others is an inspiration to us all. Malala's story teaches us the importance of using our voices to challenge injustice, even in the face of fear. When Malala was born no one could see what she would become. This is a great example of not allowing your culture, gender, economic status or religious concerns to keep you in a cage of fear.

Conclusion

In conclusion, you are created to be a powerful being to represent the one who created you! The fears are an indicator that something wonderful is awaiting release and it requires your attention and intention to manifest. Holy Scriptures teach us to not be afraid. That fear is do not dread taking the steps necessary to get you to where you want to go in life.

It means you have the power resident within you to do the thing, that those little forces in your head are telling you cannot be done! Listen closely: confronting the thing that frightens us the most is not an easy task, but it is a necessary one for personal growth and self-improvement.

By exploring the different schools of thought, adopting practical tactics and strategies, and drawing inspiration from impactful individuals, we can embark on a journey of self-discovery and transformation. So, why not take that leap of faith, gradually expose ourselves to our fears, and shift our mindset towards fear? The possibilities that await us on the other side are limitless.
