What if you could have the ideal?

You live in a small town. In a country somewhere. The town has issues. Infrastructure issues. Roads are inadequate. Not enough of them. The road surfaces are old and are falling apart. There are deep potholes causing flats. People are complaining. There really should be a bridge across the river separating it from its neighbouring town. But the town is small. Not enough people to fund the improvements. The country does not have enough funds to allocate to the town either. Not enough funds to build the bridge. Things are bleak. No easy answer. No answer, period.

Now imagine a new ideal world.

1. Roads can be re-surfaced. All of them. In a week. The cost is 1% of what it would have been - done the traditional way.
2. The bridge can be built in a day. Also at a cost of 1% of the traditional approach.
3. And the town can afford all of that without any help from the country.

So, if we can do all that, what else would we do? Actually what would we do, period? Is the bridge the ideal? Maybe not - when we came up with that idea we were still limited by our assumed constraints. If those constraints don't exist, maybe there are better ideals. Maybe the tunnel which was previously unthinkable is the right answer? We really have to think about that one! We no longer have to focus on funding and the traditional way of doing things. They are solved. We now have to think about the town itself. What is good for it? How do we make it an ideal place to live and work? How do we help the country advance to become the ideal country in the world where people want to live and work?

What is quality of life, if the how we achieve it, is no longer a problem? Wow. What a new problem we have. What a nice problem to have. What a difficult problem we have. We have to think about this one!

We have never thought about that. Thinking about it was always blocked by the how we make even the smallest improvements or repairs. We are very fortunate to be able to think about this and to be able to do something about it. Not just individually but together in the town.

Traditional IT has blocked us from even remotely thinking of the ideal. We are just repairing and making minor improvements - at a very great cost. We have been in a downward spiral.

It is time for change.
