What is Yangon Redesigned?
Many of you have asked why we do what we do. Therefore, we wanted to take a chance at visually explaining ourselves.
This poster should explain all the things that you guys have been wondering about Yangon Redesigned. One thing that we can assure is the fact that we do not mean any harm or offense to any of the brands that we worked on. All we have ever wanted to do was to increase awareness for design in Yangon.
Sure, we did receive a lot of negativity. But, we have also received a lot of positive feedback that pushes us even further. To quote Larry Page of Google, “Negativity is not the way to make progress”. And therefore, we strongly feel that we shall not be intimidated by the sheer amount of negativity if we really wanted to push design awareness forward in Yangon.
We are always open to criticism because it helps us. We hope that we would be able to achieve our vision and create a positive design community with constructive feedback.

9 年Zinmar Win Adkin Thank you for your comments. Indeed, Myanmar has a complex cultural heritage. Also, there are tons of constraints that we have to work within as designers. To name a few, strong belief in astrology, unique skeptism towards change. But, we strongly believe that that's what makes the whole Yangon Redesigned fun. We don't exactly know what the response would be. On another note, allow me to pick your brain for awhile if you don't mind. What do you think is the best approach to get brands' consent so that we do not get sued?

9 年Great to see an open push back on negativity - in a new market like Myanmar with such a complex culture, negativity can be like an infectious virus. I hope that having people in the creative and design industry like yourself will be the perfect positive antidote. Great design can only be a positive that shines a glorious light on Myanmar's future. To every positive soul in our country with a love for design, I salute you, we are comrades.

9 年You might want to get on top of the case and explain how the negativity came about, the misunderstandings that have motivated it, and explain the purpose of YD from your point of view. For the uninitiated, it gives us a better insight to the initiative, and helps us form an opinion on this matter.
