I could write a book on why one should cultivate the art of writing. Writing on LinkedIn is a niche form of expression that requires an understanding of your audience, purpose, scope of topics, genre, and frequency. Over the past 10 years, I’ve been consistently writing on LinkedIn, and the benefits I’ve reaped have been profound. In this article, I won’t cover the basics: how writing helps clear your thoughts, articulate your ideas, or bring clarity to your decision-making—these are well-known advantages. Instead, I want to explore how writing on LinkedIn can specifically enhance your professional journey and beyond.
For me, sharing my thoughts on a platform that connects professionals means putting myself out there.
It means speaking up.
It means sharing my opinions without fear of being judged—or sometimes, being open to judgment.
It means showing up consistently, willing to share my personal take on issues that matter to me and those in my network.
It also means digging deep into my thoughts and sharing what I find with the world.
It means I’m open to feedback. We know that sharing opinions with the world often invites criticism, but it’s through this process that we grow.
It means I’m committed to improving myself.
It means I’m not afraid of who I am—in fact, if anything, I’m proud of it.
It means that I care.
It means that I care about the issues happening in the world.

It means that I care about sharing my learnings so others can avoid the mistakes I’ve made.
It means I care about the little things in life that make me smile.
It means I’m grateful for the support I receive from friends, colleagues, clients, and people in my network.
It means I matter to someone, but most importantly, it means I matter to myself. Even after a long, hectic day, I take the time to write because it helps me feel better in my heart and mind.
Writing on LinkedIn for the past decade has helped me build my personal brand. I’m not just known for my role in a company—I’m known for much more.
Some people know me as a mother; others know I support nonprofit organizations.
Some recognize me as a professional with 13+ years of experience across the IT and social sectors, while others remember that I was once an amateur stand-up comedian.
The list goes on.
I hope I’ve made my point.
Happy writing on LinkedIn! Please share your thoughts with me—whether in comments, messages, or likes—because these interactions motivate me to keep writing.
Thank you!
