What would your School Bus Service need?

In Mexico City, as in many other cities in the world, the use of a School Bus Service is necessary and helps reduce carbon emissions by reducing the use of cars to take students from their homes to school and back.


With the advance of Digital Transformation, this service has been evolving, offering a better service, both to the students and to their parents.


How?

Through cultural change, the right processes and technology.


For parents and students (Customers)

  • In many parts of the world, parents pay a monthly fee for the service. In this case, to keep track and make it easy to collect each transaction is done per parent/student, a payment platform is required (as in any business).
  • Notifications can be made through an App to notify whether or not the student will attend classes (due to an illness or special event), avoid transport delays when pick-up or delivery, and facilitate optimization of the best route daily.
  • Parents also need to be aware of possible delays that the bus may have in real-time, so it could be visualized by a GPS and the use of interactive maps to know precisely the location of it.


For drivers and assistants (Employees)

  • Use the application to know the route to follow if there have been changes along the way, such as a student being absent due to illness, because the parents pick him up to take him to the doctor, roadblocks, bus issues, etc. In this way, the driver and assistants will know the best route to follow with the help of interactive maps in case of any contingency or change.
  • Notifications: send a message in case of any anomaly, such as: notifying if the student got on the bus or not, delays in the time to pick up / leave the student at home, and some incident/bus issue on the way.


For the Organization

  • Keeping your customers and employees informed of what is happening in real-time on each one of the routes.
  • Having the data and information online and acting quickly in case of any contingency.
  • With the help of the Internet of Things, be able to control the maintenance status of each of the buses to prevent failures in them.

All this will help the organization that operates the service to improve it and minimize costs.

Conclusion

Unfortunately, all this is not applied in many organizations or they do it partially. For example, even though the application has a way to notify that the student will not attend classes due to illness, the school bus service continues picking up the student.


All this indicates that there is a divorce between people, processes, and technology.
