I'm under the firm belief that if a person is given the knowledge, the motivation, the opportunity and most especially is held accountable, then that person can do anything he or she sets their mind to.
In today's professional world, the skills needed to get ahead are not specifically taught in school nor in training workshops. Sure, most people are taught how to write a business letter or develop a budget, but they are not taught how to network with people or how to develop a strong growth mindset and they are sure not taught actually how to talk to people.
I think back to when I graduated from college and started my first "real" job and how I felt like a fish out of water. I truly was learning on the job, not only with the job duties specifically, but also with navigating the professional world. We all know how daunting the professional world can be no matter your age!
Self-confidence is built on the foundation of knowledge and consistent action with reinforcing motivation and encouragement. So, it only makes sense that people in the professional world that are unsure of how to navigate networking, job promotion, client onboarding and so many other tasks, will ultimately feel less self-confident if they have never been shown the "what" or the "how" to actively participate and thus, show up. And these feelings are not just felt by 22 year olds. I hear people of all ages every week talk about their fears of what they don't know or have not had to think about before. Job search can be scary, but so can trying to get promoted or starting your own small business.
Over the past 25+ years, I have had to navigate the professional world with no real examples to follow, sometimes stumbling along until I discovered the best method for me. So many times fear was the leading emotion and embarrassment was right there bringing in the rear.
How many of you out there can relate?
For so many years, I have seen people who are incredibly smart and experienced, but lacked the self-confidence and knowledge of what to do to actually push themselves ahead at work or in their business. Or even to get a better job...

3 年Where else am I going to go and what else am I going to do Sandy Adams, M.A.T.? Giving up is NOT an option, but enduring the rejections, and the failure of generating legitimate job search connections through networking, and trying to stay positive in the quicksand of failure can grate on the most resilient of Job Seekers. Trying NOT to add to all of this by becoming one's own worst enemy also can contribute to the feelings of failure and frustration, and eventual hopelessness. That's why I say to you @Sandy Adams, M.A.T. that I am open to getting help and asking for help and in need of coaching to get me out of this and change so that I can show my next employer that they need me in their organization.
