What would your 5 year old self tell you now?

Recently I was asked a question, 'How did you reinvent yourself' when referring to my persona now vs. when I was in a corporate 9-5. To this question, I responded: "I've become the person I once was"! As a child I was talkative, free spirited, creative, always talking to myself, cooking, crafting, reading and most importantly saw the world with endless possibilities.

So given that realization, I wonder how many of you may have lost that 5 year child in yourself and need a little nudge to get back to who you once were if you put on an adult mask.

Let's have some fun with the following scenarios:

You now: Can this wait until tomorrow? I have to stay up late and get this report done.

You child: Can I stay up late and read another chapter?

You now: It's important we work together to get this initiative over the finish line. What else do you need from me?

You child: Do you want to color with me? We can cover the entire wall with our pictures!

You now: Stop playing with your food; some children are starving?

You child: Can I have some macaroni to paint and make a necklace?

You now: You might want to consider your audience in how you present your message for a greater impact.

You child: Ladies & gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to my magic show!

You now: Keep your voice down, you might disturb others.

You child: Whooo Hooo! (running around with a cape and jumping off the stairs)

You now: I know I can add value to this organization based on my experience.

You child: Look at me, I can fly!

As for the child speaking to you now, I bet you they would say something like: "Come out and let's play!"

I hope I brought back some childhood memories for you and perhaps you see these same behaviors from the young ones in your life.

My bold question to you is have you lost that child because of societal narratives?

Have you yearned to have more fun, be more playful and creative?

It's possible if you just dream it and make it so, with a little intentional effort.

As for me, I still practice as an adult to assure financial obligations are met, but when I show up here or on my virtual stage, I like to play, be creative and help you to think differently. Maybe even awaken the child you once were!

I'd love to know if this gentle nudge into revisiting your 5 year old self, lit a spark under you to let them out and realize more joy in your life.

Until next time, I wish you well.

Love this reflection! It's a powerful reminder that sometimes, to reinvent ourselves, we need to reconnect with the essence of who we were as children—curious, imaginative, and full of wonder.?

You are a good person, Deb but you are a grown woman not a little girl
