What would you tell your younger self?
It’s the favorite interview ending question.
It’s thoughtful and insightful.
It’s supposed to give you the opportunity to demonstrate some of the wisdom you’ve acquired over the years from your training and experience.
The answer to that question forces you to reflect on what you’ve done and learned to date, and to make a value judgement on that information and your experiences.
The answer to that question has little to no impact on you other than to help organize your life in your mind.
It’s that way because you can’t go back. You can’t relive the past.
If you did, it would change who and where you’re at today. You would simply not be the person that you are today.
The mistakes and challenges that you faced gave you the opportunity to learn and hopefully overcome them.
The true value in the answer is for those that you can help along the way.
The answer gives you the ability to help others that are in, or about to have, their own challenges that may be similar to the ones that you had.
To be able to take advantage of your experiences and hopefully learn from your mistakes is what that answer provides to those that take the time to listen.
Throughout life we have the opportunity to learn from the experiences of others as well as to mentor others that have not yet had those experiences.
So, what would you tell your younger self?
