What Would You See If You Acquired 20/2 Vision?
Most of us can barely see what the real world is actually about, including what transpires in reality within our society. We often ignore the troubles in the world, in favour of focusing on what would make our lives easier and more convenient. Many people have no time for relatives and the elderly, despite the fact they should identify with them as their future. People overlook corruption and do not donate to, or participate in charity work. Every day people ignore their footprint on the planet, believing that their contribution to pollution, or conservation efforts, will have no impact.
What does 20/2 vision mean?
This is basically explaining that at a distance of twenty metres, the vision would be that which would normally be possible at two metres, and thus a greatly accentuated vision.
Individuals with 20/2 vision are very rare as this is close to accuracy of vision displayed by hawks and eagles. The question must be whether this would revolutionize the human scope of vision. Your perception of the world would in theory change dramatically. You would be able to see at extraordinary distances perceiving more colours, which would particularly benefit those who engage in art. This enhancement would develop minds that are more creative and emotionally intelligent.
A person with such accentuated vision would actually view objects in a deeper sense. Vision at this level would allow further and much clearer eyesight or eye view; maybe it would enable people to see the hidden issues or matters usually ignored in society and the world. Maybe people would become more aware of the reality in their environment.
This may just be the catalyst making more people inspired and motivated to do things that could help in improving the world both economically and socially, for the benefit future generations. This could provide the motivation for people caring more about other races, the elderly and poor people. Hopefully, they would be able to appreciate and realize that all categories of people have their worth and importance in this world.
Why do people “close their eyes”?
Maybe it is a coping mechanism, which allows them to escape challenging situations. It may be that others feel overwhelmed with the constant bombardment of information with the explosion of social media. However, as members of our society and occupants of this planet, we are all collectively responsible and accountable for the management of resources and harmony on earth.
Vision in technicolour!
Maybe you will remember the early technicolour movies, with brilliant, vibrant colours, which excited the eyes. Previously, you had seemingly been viewing movies in the dark. However, with the arrival of technicolour those scenes were illuminated with magnificent colours.
An enhancement in vision to 20/2 acuity would give the brain a further dimension of colour, where shades would have many hues, saturations or chromas. The clarity would be almost microscopic with the increased visual acuity. Perception of the world around us would take another dimension.
Seeing is believing?
Vision is not simply a task of seeing what is placed directly in front of you. The brain has to interpret the images with some having greater sensitivity than others. The brain and eye actually work together to determine what our brains determine we should see. Light and dark have a dramatic impact on our vision, with colour having a positive influence to our world.
It would seem that when plunged into a world of darkness, scientists established that human beings actually perceive emotional expressions differently, even objects would no longer look inviting to use and in fact the sense of reality is diminished. Equally, other senses trying to compensate would be adversely affected.
Clearly, vision is much more than collection of images that meet the eyes. It is in fact a highly complex form of sensory reasoning. Our brains have to almost instantaneously process, interpret and understand what those images mean using the natural brightness of daylight. The brain uses tricks and assumptions to do this overwhelming task of analysis. However, when these assumptions are altered, then confusion and in fact, illusion reigns in our perception of the world.
‘Returning from the dark side’
Well, since the brain would appear to the major factor in determining the scope of our vision, we maybe need to focus on its needs. The brain clearly uses recognition to perceive our world, however even this is affected by dark imagery.
We may have the ability to improve vision, however it is clear that we can take other measures to improve our visual acuity. Exposure to colour and daylight are two easy steps, where we can see the true dimension and shape of the world. Arguably, being surrounded by a closed world of media, without natural cues may be affecting our sense of reality.
It is clear that it is becoming ever more important to increase the scope of our vision, to spend time in nature and show compassion to other human beings. The alternative is a world where chaos reigns without respect for humanity or the planet. Ultimately, we should not need any vision enhancement in order to see that this is the case.
