What Would You Do If I Gifted You an Extra 24 Hours?

I remember, last year, participating in a Mastermind with some incredible business owners, coaches and creators when the lead asked “What would you do if I gifted you an extra hour each day?”

The chat on Zoom blew up.

Before I could strategize how I would dissect that precious 60 minutes, I knew the answer for me was sleep.? Followed closely by marketing.

And it was at that moment I realized those were the things I sucked at.? Those were the things I was pushing off as shoulds instead of musts.? Sleep, because I had been perpetually overwhelmed in trying to grow a business.? And marketing…because I was absolutely clueless in it but understood the importance of it for business growth.

Now, that was the answer for being gifted a single additional hour each day.

But if you were gifted an additional 24 hours - what would you do with it?? Take note of what just came up in your mind.? It’s likely something you kind of suck at and that you’ve been pushing off as a should.

The Leap Year - Is This the “Someday” We’ve All Been Looking For?

Ever set a vague goal?? Something that doesn’t have a committed date to it?? You see the vision, you know what has to be done, know the benefits of accomplishing it and have the capacity and resources to accomplish it…and yet fail to follow through???

Chances are you put it onto the mysterious day of the week called “Someday”.

I call my clients out on this frequently when they fail to set a date and plan for execution on any goal - whether it’s their own health, a business/career goal, or a hot date with a lover.

And, they call me out on this too.? Such great people.

I’ve always tried to find that day of the week called Someday.? I know when I find it, there’s going to be a hell of a lot to celebrate on crossing decades worth of unfinished or forgotten goals across the finish line.

It’s a Leap Year this year, and it had me wondering if this is the Someday we’ve all been searching for.

While I can’t guarantee we’re going to find a pile of finished goals this February 29th, maybe it’s an opportunity to make a commitment that sticks.? What was that should you wrote down above?

The Worst ROI You Invest Into

If you’re unfamiliar with how a leap year works, it’s a magical additional day of the year that occurs once every 4 years where all your dreams can come true and you can catch up on the things you’ve been putting off.???

You know? it’s not that, but I want you for a moment to frame it as an investment of time that you get an opportunity to cash a dividend on.? Every year you pay ? of a day, or 6 hours into cashing out a full extra day in the 4th year.? This is a terrible ROI and while I highly discourage ever paying into this kind of an investment, we don’t have a choice in the matter.??

Now, the calendar doesn’t change and this Leap Year lands on a Thursday.? Likely you are still going to work, doing your day-to-day routine and making the world a better place.? Unfortunately it’s not a free day with no boundaries to do anything you want.

But if that’s what it was?

If you were actually gifted - able to utilize that above investment - to have a day completely free of obligation…what would you do with it?? And no - “catching up on work” is not allowed.? Get a little more creative.

Do One of Those Things

Whatever just came up for you - why aren’t you doing that regularly anyways?

Integrate one of the practices that came to mind into your daily life.? When thinking of a free day - free of obligation, free to do what we want, free to work on the things that we want, free to be with who we want…it’s a…well…freeing feeling.

And don’t we all need a little more freedom in our lives?

How would you structure your day?

What would you do to move your body?

Who would you connect with?

What skill or passion project would you grow?

What would you do to bring some fun and excitement into your life?

How many hours would you invest into the most important work to move your business and career forward?

And while it’s not a day completely free of obligation, why not use this Leap Year as the day you begin to align with what gives you some more freedom in your life??

?

Begin to restructure your day and week to align with that model.? The one that gives you some more freedom to do and be you on the day-to-day.

??

Find the time and intentionally schedule it in your calendar on a regular basis.? Then commit to following through on it when those times come up - just as you would for a client meeting, your work, or your kids soccer practice.? This can have a profound impact over the course of months in whatever you’re trying to accomplish rather than waiting for Someday to show up.

I guarantee you can find well more than 24 hours over the course of a single month if you look for it.? Say ‘no’ to some of the things that are consuming you, stop wasting time on things that don’t matter, and guard time for what’s important.
