What would you do differently …?

One thing I picked up early as a member in Toastmasters club is asking for feedback on my speech performance. More importantly, listening with no judgments and explore how I can become better. As I gathered more experience, I delivered the same speech at different club meetings. Some weeks were filled with speaking slots; same speech but 3 or 4 different audiences.?
It was the most eventful & fun-filled phase of my learning journey. The first speech was a bit tough, the last one was usually a blast; I’d truly enjoy the seven minutes of showtime and the fact that 20+ people listened to me. Repeated exposures to new audiences replaced my mental frame from failure to feedback. Each attempt was a way to become better, improve and engage with my audience.
Here’s one question I’d ask people during the break or after the club meeting.
What would you do differently if you were me?
Some wouldn’t share much, especially if they are new to speaking. The seasoned ones would offer 1-2 things they would implement in content, structure or delivery. That was my secret to becoming more effective at speaking and setting up a loop of growth through conscious changes. It was like stringing pearls on a necklace. Each speech was a pearl added to the thread of experience.?
Next time you present in a group meeting at work, ask this question to a few people. Most importantly non-technical folks in the room. You’ll be surprised to hear what they will say. Try it, you have everything to gain from this question.?
