What would you choose, if you weren`t afraid?

What would you choose, if you weren`t afraid?

I grew up in a publishing house between journalists, writers and poets. Well, not literary, but that`s how I remember my childhood and early teenage years.

I was writing a diary since age 10, and even published few poems in the kids` magazine. About horses??. I have never been into horses, though.

Studying journalism was one of my options. But then I saw that part of the program is “public speaking” and I was everything, except a public speaker. Even reading those two words together made me chills. It still does.

So, I chose the psychology studies. Because, you know.. that`s what people who are scared of public speaking do, right???♀?

I still remember the very first lesson. The professor said: majority of you won`t graduate in 4 years. Majority of you won`t even become psychologists. She said:

Your path to your right place won`t be straight. It almost never is a straight line. But if you love what you do and keep working on that, you will get there.

And she was right.

I started having panic attacks in the second year of the studies. Who would have thought there is no need for public speaking to get anxiety that takes your breath away?

Long story short, my path wasn`t straight, indeed. I graduated in 6 years, and started my career as a recruiter not psychologist.

I thought it`s temporary, but then I happened to move to another country. And my recruiter career got much more international, dynamic and exciting. Fast forward, 15 years later I was still recruiting.

It took me one burn out ??and one set of twins ??????????to come back to the roots of me.

What would I do differently if I weren`t afraid? There are so many options and opportunities. But time can`t be turned back. Yet. Therefore, the real question is: What to do differently NOW.

Here is what I did.

I followed the joy. I followed what energizes me. I followed what makes me lose the sense of the time.

“We don`t have to do everything in order to be everything.” – the quote of the “Midnight Library” by Matt Haig.

We only need to be one person.

??The person, who knows their strengths and leans into them.

??The person who uses their full potential and enjoys what they do.

??The person who succeeds by being authentic.

Fear is a real thing! It makes us not pursue dreams for fear of failure. It makes us choose #silence instead of speaking up which indicates a lack of #psychologicalsafety. To face our fears head on, we must enhance our #mindfulness and #growthanddevelopment. It’s never too late to increase #resilience and face our fears. ??
