What is the Worst Halloween Candy?
Remember trick-or-treating as a kid? There were always certain candy you didn’t want to find in your bag, and if you did you would try to pawn them off on an unsuspecting younger brother or sister.
Now obviously everyone has their own preferences, but there are certain candy that many people would agree are simply the worst. We’ve compiled a list of the 7 worst Halloween Candies just so you won’t become that “Almond Joy House” on the block that everyone avoids.
1. Candy Corn
Candy Corn craze is in full swing, in fact, Google announced that candy corn is the most-searched-for sweet in the U.S. It’s probably one of the most polarizing sweets out there. Some people love it and some can’t stand it.
We fall in the can’t-stand-it category, and here’s why. It's nothing but corn syrup mixed with three other kinds of sugar, some wax, food coloring and mineral oil. Candy Corn is sticky sweet and tastes like cavities! It is definitely one of those treats that looks better than it tastes!
2. Swedish Fish
If you enjoy this overly gummy, fish-shaped waxy candy you are in a minority. This sweet ranks pretty low among most Americans, with some people suggesting that it tastes like your average house cleaner. On a bright note though, Swedish Fish are vegan and animal cruelty-free, since they don’t contain any gelatin (collagen obtained from various animal body parts found in most gummy candies).
3. Smarties
How do you tell which house has the cheapskates living in it? That’s the one that gives out a bunch of Smarties instead of springing for some chocolate. Smarties have a weird chalky texture that should never, ever go in your mouth unless you're eating Tums.
4. Tootsie Rolls
Tootsie Rolls are not too bad, they are just everywhere. They are the quintessential filler candy. And they are not even really chocolate! By the time you get to the Tootsie Rolls at the bottom of your bag they taste rather stale and are fully capable of destroying your jaw if you dared to chew them.
5. Good & Plenty
Licorice has a distinct flavor not everyone can get on board with. So it’s no surprise that Good & Plenty is only a hit with those who already love licorice. Significantly less popular than Mike & Ike, Good & Plenty even looks like medicine. Another fun fact - the pink in the candy is a dye made with K-Carmine, which is produced by crushing female cochineals (insects).
6. Dum Dums
Dum Dums are just small lollipops, they are more stick than candy and they simply don’t excite anyone. You never know what flavor you are going to get, it might be something ridiculous like buttered popcorn.
7. Mounds and Almond Joy
Coconut is another food that falls into that ambiguous category of foods that people either love or hate. Kids have a particularly strong opinion on the texture of coconut, and for the most part prefer to enjoy their chocolate without having the coconut flakes stuck in their teeth.
