What The World Needs Now Is Lesbian Romantic Comedies at the Art of Brooklyn Film Festival, June 6

Christie Conochalla, an award-winning filmmaker who focuses on the lives and loves of Lesbians in Los Angeles, will have an entire block of her shorts called “What The World Needs Now Is Love…” featured in the upcoming Art of Brooklyn Film Festival (streaming June 1-12). Best known for her multi-award winning " August in the City" and the lesbian rom-com "Once Upon a Zipper," Christie's first feature "Forever Not Maybe" recently earned her Best Director at the North Hollywood Cinefest Film Festival, and has been rated the most-watched film on the LesFlicks streaming platform. LesFlicks will co-present the Art of Brooklyn event streaming world wide on June 6, 7:00 pm EDT. After the screening London based LesFlicks founder and CEO Naomi Bennett will lead a live, intercontinental artist talk with the LA filmmaker about her love of telling widely relatable stories about lesbian characters.

AoBFF invites a different Guest Festival Director each season, to keep its programming vision fresh and diverse and after an international search Conochalla was selected to curate the 2021 season. "Christie would never have curated her own work into the season, that was my idea," said Art of Brooklyn Executive Director Joseph Shahadi. " The sweet, funny, romantic world of Christie's films is a tonic, especially now. It was a no-brainer to include them on our 2021 program, especially when Naomi Bennett agreed to co-present the event." Bennett's Lesflicks is a global streaming platform, film database, events and community website dedicated to 100% women loving women content featuring lesbian & bisexual stories and characters, and she has spent the better part of her adult life working to make certain queer women get the representation they deserve. "We're really happy to partner with LesFlicks to celebrate Christie's work and bring it to wide audience," Shahadi said.

The award-winning Art of Brooklyn Film Festival was founded in 2011 to bring the vital Brooklyn independent film scene into conversation with the industry, and their peers across the country and around the world. For over a decade AoBFF has showcased exciting emerging creators and established voices, created innovative programming, hosted world-class artist talkbacks, and screened for enthusiastic audiences across Brooklyn-- and the world. As of 2020 AoBFF has entertained audiences in fifteen countries and over a dozen of AoBFF premieres have gotten distribution, while one became an HBO series.
