I just realized that I have sent you over 20 letters. I am excited and grateful.
What started out as a mistakenly posting an article as a newsletter has been a fulfilling and rewarding journey. Read the official first newsletter.
Earlier in the week, I kept thinking of what to say to encourage you. I was reminded of 2022. Like many years, I started the year with enthusiasm and lots of goals. By the end of the first quarter I had gotten 20 rejection emails. By the time the year ended I had received over 50 rejection emails. (This letter is not about rejection).
When I did an audit of the first quarter I saw the need for gratitude. I was featured on over 10 media platforms due to my work on the Space For Her Project. This project was not on the list of my goals for the year.
Infact, it was not among my thematic area of work. Before this project my thematic areas were climate and plastic recycling. This project was politically inclined and involved women empowerment.
As I braced for the second quarter of the year, I decided to focus on what was working. This was scary as it meant venturing into uncharted territories and working on more thematic areas that expanded the scope of my work.
After thinking about this letter, I felt "hmm! deep! wise!"
The following day I had a call with one of my guardian we exchanged pleasantries and he asked me if I applied for an opportunity. I told him no, "this is not what I want now!" he encouraged me and said "but things are working in that direction".
After the call ended I reflected on what was said and went to put my application in order. Sometimes we can be so focused on blessing people that we fail to see how relevant our own advice and blessing can be to ourselves.
Trying new things can be scary, do it afraid! Focusing on what you don't want can be discouraging especially when what you desire and work for is not forth coming. Do it discouraged but excellently.
Before the end of 2022, I got the grant that made me get so many rejections. I also grew exponentially as an individual and as a professional.
