What if work teams became a little more inspired every day?

I was daydreaming the other day and I had a vision of a workplace where everyone contributes to making it just a little bit better every day. I first thought, no big deal but then I started imagining what would happen. I saw a workplace where inch by inch it was easier to get work done, so productivity soared. I saw a workplace where inch by inch conflict was melting away and difficult discussions were becoming easier, so collaboration soared. People were more joyful, more energized, and full of passion, so attracting and retaining top talent got easier. I saw a workplace that inch by inch was creating more breakthroughs and soaring past the competition. I saw a workplace where magic happens, and I don’t use that word lightly.
Then I woke up out of my dream and reality hit, this couldn’t be possible, or could it? I have seen glimpses of it in organizations like Morningstar and 10Pines. I have experienced, on very rare occasions, that amazing sense of flow where time slows down and the impossible becomes possible – where magic happens. I choose to believe it is possible. I have no illusion that this vision means there are never any negative feelings or tensions; those will always exist but they are the fuel for growth.
I realize that, too often, I fall into the trap of thinking I have the best answer; I am committed to expanding my horizons so I am doing something different. I have never done something like this before; it seems daunting and, for some reason, scary. I keep thinking I am not ready; my LinkedIn profile needs updating; my website is not right, etc. etc. etc. Nevertheless, I am committed to giving it a try and to stop procrastinating. For those of you who know me, you know I am a team person. I work best with others. My vision is like a single star in the sky; there are many more stars needed to make the wondrous night sky. In today’s world we too often suppress our dreams in the name of being realistic. I would love to hear your dream; what do you imagine is possible?

3 年Steven Wolff , you have taught me so much over the past year or so. Your dream inspires me to dream bigger. Recently, one leader told me that the cultural transformation that I hope for will never happen. Maybe that's true but it won't stop me. I have decided to commit my life's work helping leaders and teams build cultures where people thrive. I do believe the workplaces of the future can be places of collective joy, creativity, and productivity IF we are INTENTIONAL about it. Nothing is impossible to those who believe!
