What exactly is ‘work ownership’???

Ownership at work is an act where employees are treating the company and its resources as if they were their own. They realize that there’s a greater responsibility for the result, and so they tend to take more initiative.??

This includes carrying out things such as sounding out ideas for improvements, proposing a solution, involving team members to do a brainstorming session, or solving a problem, etc.??


What does it look like in a work setting???

While ownership at work tends to lean toward innovation, it also stands with individuals giving their 100% at work. They don’t simply work because they have to, but because they want the best results for the company and themselves as a form of satisfaction.??

For example, we provide you with a video from a US TV show called ‘Abbott Elementary’.???

It’s a show about a group of elementary teachers who are teaching students living in an underprivileged area. In this video, a character named Janine proposed to provide a variety of fruit-flavored juice beverages for the kids.??

Her idea is quickly discouraged by her fellow teacher, another character named Barbara.???

Setting an example of work ownership, Janine speaks up about her idea for the benefit of the kids, as well as executing it swiftly.???

On the other hand, you might hear Barbara saying words like “If it ain’t (is not) broke (broken), don’t fix it,” and “New projects mean new problems.” choosing not to participate and stick to the old customs of the establishment.??

“I think it’s really important for the employees to work for creation and empowerment. I tend to encourage my team members to ask themselves while doing their tasks; "Am I satisfied with this work? Is this good enough? Would anyone understand the message I’m trying to convey?" she says.??

It’s also worth noting that work can be fun through its environment and the people you encounter. Privy creates an environment where collaboration between teams and leaders is encouraged and also boosts the growth of every single member.?

“If they’re happy and satisfied [with the job that they’re doing], then they will feel an accomplishment towards their creation,” Rima concludes.??
