What is Work Culture and How Can You Contribute?

While it might not be something we're used to, work culture is a topic no one can escape these days. Now more than ever, companies want to know that you're going to contribute to their work culture, and employees want to make sure you provide them with a healthy one.?

When a company has a good work culture, it's a win-win for everyone. It quickly becomes a great place to work filled with great people where great work gets done.?

So what exactly is work culture? Work culture is the unseeable but very tangible way to describe a company's social, mental, and emotional aspects. It also happens to be the most significant factor behind an employee's choice to stay or leave a company.?

I recently spoke with our COO, Cono Tavolaro, about work culture, and after some discussion, he let me know his thoughts on what company culture meant to him. "It's the general attitude, customs, and vibe of a company."?He was right.?

Work culture makes the company live and breathe—it's a company's values, beliefs, experiences, and overall treatment of employees. It is the work environment surrounding a company at every moment, and?Merola lives our culture.?Many of us know our core values, and we promise to abide by them, but it's not something we find ourselves thinking about every day. However, in-between chucking away at the newest order or putting out a fire, we find ourselves laughing or supporting each other.

Somewhere along our 34 years of existence, Merola became the blueprint for what work culture should be—we were born by our core values and continue to live by them.?

Our employees are the foundation of this. They are the individuals who fix an order that went wrong, find misplaced freight, and celebrate our company's milestones because?they care about our mission.?

As a part of leadership, our goal is to help our people grow into the best versions of themselves and create the best version of the company. John Mackey of Whole Foods said, "If you are lucky enough to be someone's employer, then you have a moral obligation to make sure people do look forward to coming to work in the morning."??

You better hire people you want to be obligated to.
