What is Wi-Fi?

You can think of Wi-Fi as an invisible motorway for your devices, allowing them to connect to the internet without any wires. Over the years, this motorway has been expanded and improved with new versions or 'updates', enhancing its speed, security, and features to cater to our growing internet needs.

As technology evolves with new phones, laptops, and TVs, our Wi-Fi needs to adapt and keep pace with these advancements. The speed of the internet has drastically increased over the last 20 years, going from a sluggish dial-up connection to lightning-fast broadband that delivers high-speed internet right to our homes.

Despite these advancements, we often overlook the role our Wi-Fi plays in maintaining this connectivity. It's the silent worker in the corner, tirelessly routing traffic for our devices.

In the UK, the internet traditionally arrives at our homes through old copper telephone lines. The speed of this internet largely depends on how far your house is from the local street cabinet. It's like being at a music concert - the closer you are to the stage (or the cabinet), the better your experience.

Rural areas usually face slower speeds due to their reliance on these older networks. It's like living far from the concert - the music still reaches you, but it's not as clear or powerful.

When companies like Kloud9 bring superfast, gigabit internet to your home, it's like swapping out your old hatchback for a sports car.

You may start noticing some Wi-Fi issues more frequently. But don't worry, it's not because the sports car (our router or service) is faulty, it's just how Wi-Fi behaves when it's working at these high speeds, which might be a new experience for many because they've never had such fast internet before. These are just speed limits of Wi-Fi that were never visible until now.
