The ‘what’, ‘why’ and ‘how’ of reading

Can reading a book change your perspective on life? What should you read to improve your knowledge? How does reading a book help us grow as a person? Or simply, why read?

Here are your answers.

Only a bookworm can tell you the joy of reading an old-fashioned, printed book. But even if you are an e-book fan, you’d know the many perks of reading, especially when it comes to boosting your imagination. All reasons aside, it simply helps us come out of that skewed version of the world that we might have created in our mind and exposes us to differing views, challenges us on so many levels, makes us inquisitive and helps us explore ourselves in a way we’d never do otherwise.

I spoke to Abbas Husain, a Pakistani scholar, a dedicated teacher trainer and an articulate advocate of the intellectual authority of teachers in the society on all things reading!

Some quick lessons to learn here:

Reading books vs watching informational video bits

Ever wondered why you are not able to contextualise what a speaker is trying to explain in a video? Let’s understand that writing is a form of art. It gradually builds on the narratives, the characters and the scenarios in a way that you are taken through a journey that helps you unravel the complete essence.

Readers turn to be leaders

Reading increases intelligence, hands down! You will hear some globally renowned names in the video who have done incredible things and they have been avid readers all their lives. How? Because the more you read, the more you will be exposed to the world of knowledge, the better your brain activity be, and the faster you will be able to process a combined set of information.
