Atlanta, Georgia, November 1, 2021 (For Immediate Release) — N. D. "Indy" Brennan has developed one of the most popular shows on Clubhouse, and now he has released what has been called the most provocative book ever written on American soil titled “What If White People Were Slaves?”?A book featuring this subject matter has never been previously introduced.?The book exposes an American history at the height of the African slave experience from 1810 to 1830 where the infamous treatment of many of the slaves is applied, instead, to a white slave population.?And while the book is fictional, the experience feels disturbingly realistic.
During a recent performance reading by one of the co-authors during The Book Slam on Clubhouse Tuesday (11/26), host N. D. “Indy” Brennan masterfully began to transport the audience to a southern summer in America that was reminiscent of what was familiar to most of the listeners.?That was until he subtly introduced the line “Now that doesn't mean that it was any easier ripping those fibers from the seeds.?No sir.?The cotton-picking white flesh of slave hands were always a sight.”?The room appeared to become suffocatingly uncomfortable.?This is where the performance unexpectedly associated the documented and painfully familiar history that every American knows with this disturbingly unfamiliar impossibility.?The author presents an unprecedented role reversal that clearly shocked the system of each audience member.
Within his brief read, the author was described as having instantly stimulated very deep and strongly conflicting emotions.?Author Dr. Tina Figueroa suggested that while she realized the slaves were white people in the book, the fictional description of what occurred when a white slave was caught trying to escape remained unnervingly connected to the real-life past experiences of her ancestors.?Author Mike Schmidke called the read “graphic” yet “powerful.”?He graciously responded to a recent Instagram post regarding the book, “I thought it was written by Stephen King.”
It appeared that the two most common descriptions of the book were “powerful” and “graphic.”?This is how the book has been consistently described by men and women who are both white and people of color.?Following the read Author Chyrel J. Jackson suggestedhat “while the book is quite graphic, it is also necessary.”?Author Allie West expanded on the comment by remarking, “people would not get it if it was any softer.?He understood the assignment and nailed it.?Great read!”

?What If White People Were Slaves paints a mental image that has been considered graphic and disturbing yet necessary.?The book places European imported slaves into a progressive America managed by people of color.?The authors introduce the phrase “Caulker” which is the book’s equivalent to the coined “N-word.”?And it features scenes reminiscent of how the south during this era in America’s history has often been described except the inhumanity of the actual past has been applied to white people by people of color.?Perhaps this is what makes the book such a graphic, disturbing, and uncomfortable read.?The authors have written a book that is a contradiction to everything we know and have been predisposed to accepting.?
During an international reading on The Black Books Webinar hosted by Makonnen Sankofa of the U.K., N. D. “Indy” Brennan shared, “This is the most important work I have ever been called to do.?It’s a call to action against a human condition.?People simply will not be able to appreciate your life experience or your history unless or until they are given an opportunity to walk in your shoes.?Otherwise, it doesn’t matter.?What If White People Were Slaves invites, practically dares people to step into the shoes of their neighbors and exchange histories.?Perhaps by introducing this experience, we may establish a more empathetic and understanding society.”
What If White People Were Slaves is available as an eBook and in paperback and hardcover at https://www.ndbrennanauthor.com.?It is also available on Amazon and most other major online distributors.???
