Over Christmas I went through some of my late Mum’s belongings and found this photograph of my Dad who would have been 100 this year had he got beyond the age of 66.
It’s of him as a volunteer aged 16 years and 8 months at the Royal Navy training camp HMS Collingwood - shortly after he was aboard a North Atlantic convoy escort ship. (over 4,000 ships were sunk and 100,000 lives lost in the North Atlantic in his teenage years)
When I thought things in my teenage years were hard (school exams, relationships, holiday jobs) he used to say “worse things happen at sea” ruffle my hair and smile.
He was right of course and I start another year counting my blessings one of which was HIM.
Happy New Year and may you make a difference in the lives of those close to you.
