What we’re reading ???
The 15 most in-demand tech jobs in 2024 and how to hire for them. See any roles you’re planning to hire for on this list? (the good news is - many of these roles are ones we specialize in).
Unemployment remains unchanged . The US added 216,000 jobs in December, and the unemployment rate is unchanged at 3.7%.
Is VC-investment right sizing? Interesting read on venture capital, exits, and AI in 2024.
What are the most “techy” cities in 2024? ???
In 2023, there was a lot of buzz over emerging tech cities. Are Oklahoma City and Tulsa becoming new tech hubs? Or - is Vegas building a tech scene ? (CES will be all about AI this year).
While there’s definitely new cities who are attracting and retaining tech talent (Dayton, Colorado Springs, Omaha and Des Moines were also on the list), we’re still seeing a ton of opportunities in California , specifically the Bay area. Many of our clients recruit directly specifically from cities like Mountain View or Sunnyvale, and with RTO - being in one of these major tech hubs is becoming more important.

So, we think we’ll see more of an emphasis on RTO in these tech hubs in 2024. We wrote an entire post about the return to work movement here .
Who’s looking for work right now? ??
Many of our of LinkedIn followers are job seekers, so these numbers may not be entirely surprising. But we ran a poll and 88% of respondents said they were looking for work right now, with just 5% saying they’d start in a couple months and 5% not looking at all.
This means a couple things for hiring managers. #1 - if you know you need to hire in 2024, now is the time to look with so many great candidates on the market.
And #2 - with this many people looking to make a move, it’s likely at least a decent percent are currently employed. If you want to retain your current team, check in with them. Do you have opportunities for promotions, new projects, or other benefits?
