"Warning, this website uses cookies to improve user experience."
Do you remember the last-time you opened a web page and saw this message pop up on your screen? Nowadays, web cookies are everywhere, and are reasonably confusing... so what the heck are internet cookies, and what do they actually do?
A web cookies/internet cookie/HTTP Cookie is a small piece of data sent from a website and stored on the user's computer by the user's web browser when browsing. Therefore when you visit a website that uses cookies, a web cookie file is saved on your PC, Mac, tablet or phone. This helps the website generate a unique user Id for you.
That way, if you go back to that website again, the website knows you've already been there before.
This means companies can tailor their websites to you, because they know some information about you already.
If you do not want websites to store cookies on your device, you can browse on incognito mode.
