What Are We Losing?

Background

I don't know much about AI or the Chat-thing that is showing up all over the place.?

But I have read two articles(1) and watched a video(2) that contain dramatically powerful insights and questions that we might all want to contemplate with regard to our personal and professional futures?as well as the future of humanity.?

(I strongly encourage you to watch the video! Here is a direct quote: “50% of A.I. researchers believe there’s a?10% or greater?chance that humans go extinct from our inability to control AI.”)?

This is a red-alert-all-hands-on-deck moment!

The changes are and will continue to be profound.?

The point of view I offer is that rather than becoming mired in the AI world without reflection, we use this potential crisis (among the many others) as an opportunity for us to be more fully human.?

If we mindlessly accede to these developments, we could go in the other direction and actually lose?and continue to lose precious and innate human capacities.?

One seemingly innocuous one is what has occurred with our use of Google Maps. Those who use it instead of our natural ability to navigate and orient ourselves have diminished or lost these capacities resulting in cognitive decline such as what is seen in early-onset Alzheimer’s.(3)

Some are implanting computer chips into the brain to perform functions that we have the inherent capacity to perform if we would develop them.(4)

“We must use it or lose it.”

I have a similar concern with regard to our use of drugs and the biological capacities that diminish in our bodies as a result. Some are side effects from drugs used for depression and the regulation of blood pressure. Certain emotions are being numbed or “blunted” and can impact decision-making processes.(5)

I have a strong belief in the ability of our bodies to heal themselves, and again, I fear we may be losing that capacity. We aren’t taught to consider that – much less to develop it.

One way to look at all of this is that we have become highly skillful and proficient at developing tools and resources that seemingly make our lives easier and that's fine.?

There are situations where all of these devices, drugs and resources are appropriate, for sure, but I’m sounding the alarm that we want to be aware of what we are losing.

And invite ourselves to the deeper questions of?who are we?and?how do we want to live?

What Can We Gain?

We can acknowledge there are parts of our brains and bodies that we no longer use because of these seeming “advancements,” and rather than let them atrophy, do something to enliven them.?

Unless we go forward with blinders and earmuffs on, this can be an incredible opportunity for us to become more fully human! Discover and express what that is!

Let's take what's happening with AI chat and its ability to write apparently very good articles. What we could lose is our ability to engage in reflective, creative, innovative and critical thinking, as well as deep contemplation. Lost will be an?embodied knowing?of knowledge. We might become very superficial beings in the very near future.

In 2010, a “message” came to me out-of-the blue that we needed more wisdom leaders. I didn’t know what that meant, but now I do.

We can know who we truly are as the great wisdom traditions have been telling us for more than 3,000 years. Science discovered the same thing about 100 years ago: that we are all OneBeing, intimately entangled.

What this means is that we share our being with everyone and everything. Our essential nature is peace, love, happiness, freedom.?

What might this mean for us? The world? The future?

If we are one being, we are?one with the Universe, infinitely intelligent and wise, not finite, not limited.Whether we realize it or not, we have access to that intelligence and wisdom. We can cultivate our abilities to listen, to know, to intuit and express that out into the world.?

We can become available to discover what it is that Source/Consciousness/Awareness/this OneBeing wants to create and manifest?through us?in the world.?

Each of us is incredibly powerful and infused with meaning and purpose. Each of us has a role to play.?Not even one of us is inconsequential, insignificant.

Almost every profession will be fundamentally impacted by these developments. This is the perfect time to develop the ability to listen more deeply to our intuition, to ideas, to the creativity, the knowing, that is available to each of us.

People who have the ability to intuit innovations and ideas for resolution of issues, to access inner guidance and knowing, and to create work environments and communities that cultivate shared meaning and purpose with the full expression of every person, i.e., what AI CANNOT do, will be much sought-after.?

Where Do We Begin?

We must first know in our being, not intellectually, WHO WE ARE.?

As long as we believe that we're separate beings, whatever we create, AI or otherwise, will be based on a belief in that separation and create more separation. We see that with the top five companies in this AI “frantic” “race” (their words): They must win or be left behind. Separation. Scarcity.

If you haven’t yet, read?Being Aware of Being Aware?by Rupert Spira and/or?Liberation Is?by Salvador Poe. If you’ve read both of those, let me know and I’ll recommend others.?

Watch Donald Hoffman and Rupert Spira discuss the nature of reality.(6)

[60 Minutes?devoted two segments to the AI topic April 16 – after the above was written.(7)]
