Game of thrones first aired there episode on 17th April 2011 , which obtained 2.2 million viewers in its premiere airing . By the final episode of the season, which aired June 20, the ratings had climbed to over 3 million. Show starts getting popular with a great word of mouth.
As the show grow more and more people start watching it, show gains immense popularity as it reached Season 5 all over the world.

Now people are on their highest expectation level as season 6 premiers , Episodes starts getting leaked but that did not matter much to HBO , as GOT still got enough viewers when the leaked episode where aired.
I Stared watching GOT when Season 5 was aired , and I was on 7th Cloud that wtf I have just watched , that show made me feel like yes TV can do lot more then it does(Especially Indian TV industry) . Everyday I used to read fan theories of what will be the ending of the show , would even spend hours discussing with my friends on a phone call. Recommended to almost 15 of them and everybody loved it.
So now HBO announces only 2 more seasons after season 6 with 7 and 6 episode each. Disappointed at Start but even more excited as they had so many things to show and just 2 seasons so each episode would be grand.
Season 7 gets aired and have the highest viewers and rating as well. Season 8 was 2 year after season 7 . Now what went wrong here was , after season 7 fans where on their highest level of EXPECTATIONS from the show runners(People Expectation level : 90%). , this even got worse as there were 2 more years for the Season finale (People Expectation level : 95%)., D&D(Writers) have almost 12 Million Viewers hope on them to create Magic out of season 8 which no one in this world have ever watched.
Season 8 Premiers on 14 April , with 11.76 US viewers watching it , in India people start buying HOTSTAR premium accounts as it was live with US show timings and no one wanted any spoilers .
SEASON 8 Epi 1 : Comparing to 1 episodes of all the Season’s this was a great start , now only 5 episodes remaining (People Expectation level : 95%).
SEASON 8 Epi 2 : Still they show nothing great in this episode no wars no great scenes nothing , now only 4 Episodes remaining (People Expectation level : 99%).
SEASON 8 Epi 3 : The great war , the most dangerous enemy on GOT was killed in 7 second s, now fans start complaining , how can someone who built a story of a character for almost 7 seasons gets killed in 7 seconds. As Show does not meet the 99% Expectation level of viewers people start cursing the show , still (People Expectation level : 95%)
SEASON 8 Epi 4 : Worst episode ever , but still (People Expectation level : 90%).
SEASON 8 Epi 5: Even More worse then people ever thought, show only got more and more declined in its writing compared to what people expected (It was like D&D just wanted to finish the GOT by killing everyone). (People Expectation level : 90%).
SEASON 8 Epi 6 : And here is the finale episode , which was in talks since the very first episode was aired ,
Where Cersei tells Ned stark “When you play the game of thrones you win or you die. There is no middle ground.”, here it DIED! .Finale episode gained the highest viewership ever for HBO but it was also one of the lowest rated Episode in the history of Game of thrones.

Keeping EXPECTATIONS WILL ALWAYS LEAD TO DISSAPOINTMENTS , May be viewers started expecting more form D&D which they should have not , now the people who are not expecting much from Season 8 and will watch it will definitely like the season .
Project with a great start does not mean it will have a great end as well , sometimes things don't work according to plan , but still we have to keep taking risks in project. Never underestimate the power of Client's expectations as it is more dangerous then not at all giving the deliverables.
